Thirteen people have been killed and at least 61 have been wounded during
shootings in Chicago so far over the extended July Fourth weekend.

Halfway into the July 4th extended weekend, the tally of shootings surpassed
the numbers for last year’s entire holiday weekend. Last year, 11 people
were killed and 62 others were wounded over the Fourth of July holiday
weekend — which, like this year, stretched over four days, July 1-4.

Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling addressed the violence while speaking at
a community event in Greater Grand Crossing Friday evening,

“Where’s our outrage? Where’s our anger?” Snelling told the crowd. “I’m
angry. I’m pissed off. ... I don’t want you to think, I don’t want anybody
to think here, that the Chicago Police Department is not prioritizing those
lives.”

He added that “our officers are out there working, we’re all over the city,
trying to keep it safe. ... But the police department cannot do this alone.”

This year’s holiday violence includes three mass shootings. In one, two
women and an 8-year-old boy were killed and two young boys were left in
critical condition Thursday morning after multiple people fired into a home
in Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.

In all, 20 people were shot in the trio of mass attacks. The last — so far —
of those mass shootings occurred about 12:15 a.m. Friday, when police
responded to calls of shots fired and found eight people wounded by gunfire
in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, according to the Chicago police,
who said the two gunmen fled.

None of those eight people wounded on Hastings Street — five women and three
men — suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two women, 74, and 31, were shot in their legs and were taken to Stroger
Hospital where they were listed in fair condition, police said.

Two men, 28 and 23, were also shot and taken to Stroger, listed in fair
condition.

Another man, 36, shot in his groin, was taken to Stroger in fair condition,
authorities said.

An 18-year-old woman, grazed in her head. also was taken to Stroger, where
she was in good condition, officials said.

Two women, 18 and 19, were also grazed by bullets but refused medical
attention, police said.

Less than two hours after that incident, around 1:45 a.m., a man was killed
and six others were wounded in the 100 block of South Menard Avenue after
two gunmen exchanged gunfire and fled, according to police.

Kendall Richardson, 40, was shot in the buttocks and took himself to Stroger
Hospital, where he died, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s
office said. The other victims — three men, two women and a 15-year-old boy
— did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

A 15-year-old boy, shot in his back, was taken to Stroger Hospital in good
condition, officials said.

An 18-year-old woman was shot three times in her leg and was taken to Mount
Sinai Hospital in good condition, while a second woman, 20, was shot in her
back and taken to Stroger in good condition.

A 23-year-old man was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with
a gunshot wound to his leg, officials said. He was listed in good condition.
A second 23-year-old man was shot in his hip and taken to Loyola University
Medical Center in Maywood in good condition.

A 25-year-old man was shot in his arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital,
listed in fair condition.

Minutes later, a 16-year-old girl was critically wounded early Friday in a
North Lawndale residential complex on the West Side. That incident occurred
about 1:40 a.m. She was in the 1200 block of South Central Park Avenue when
someone shot her in her head, police said.
