On a brief trip to Chicago last weekend
I was riding the Blue Line out to
O'Hare and caught a glimpse of a sign
with white lettering on blue background
of the kind used by highway departments
as permanent advisories. It said
something like "Lawrence Avenue
accident investigation site". I
think the next train stop was Jefferson
Park. Anybody know anything about this?

Anybody know anything about this?
It's where you go if you are in an accident to deal with the paperwork
of being in an accident. It's also where you might be towed to if you
are blocking traffic when broken down.

It's simply a place for any vehicle(s) to pull off to this site in case of an
accident so that regular traffic may not be blocked.

driving around the expressways I always wonder what the fuck a person is
thinking when they get a flat tire? Instead of exiting and changing the
tire in a safer place they choose to do it with 75MPH traffic whizzing
by 36 inches from them.

What's the worst that can happen? You screw up a 125 dollar tire?

I'll assume you're smart enough never to have driven 75MPH on a flat,
and ask if you've ever tried changing lanes going 20MPH on an expressway.

every time I've incurred a deflated tire while on the expressway I've
made it off the expressway and/or had a minuteman tow me up a ramp
before I cahnged the tire. If you are in the left lane and shit starts
happening you get over to the right.

That's nice when it happens, but the last flat I had (January 2006)
stranded me on the left shoulder. Not a chance in hell of getting over
to the right with the slowest traffic on I-55 doing 60. Just had to
take my chances.

so you'd take the chance of getting killed or worse, permanently
disabled, over a few hundred dollars?
